PULLMAN, Wash. - Former Washington State quarterback Jason Gesser has signed a one-year contract to play for the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League.
Gesser spent this past season as a member of the CFL's Calgary Stampeders after originally signing as a free agent with the NFL's Tennessee Titans in 2003.
"Jason is a strong, intelligent quarterback," said Blaze head coach and general manager Danny White. "In this league, you need to have depth at the quarterback position. Gesser fills that need for us and we expect him to compete for playing time immediately."
As a senior in 2002, Gesser led the Cougars to a 10-3 record and an appearance in the 2003 Rose Bowl. That season he was named the Pacific-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Year as he led the conference in passing efficiency for the third straight season and finished seventh in the Heisman voting. Gesser finished his career at WSU with 15 school records and was the only player to be selected team captain three straight seasons.
