Enquist, a rising redshirt sophomore from Edmonds, Wash., was a walk-on for the Cougars last season after being on scholarship as a true freshman in 2007-08. He appeared in 11 games in 2008-09, averaging 1.0 points per game in 4.8 minutes of action an outing. He redshirted during the 2007-08 season.
"Putting Charlie Enquist back on scholarship was one of the priorities for us this spring," said Bone. "With a number of big kids graduating from the program in the past two seasons and the injury to Fabian, we're counting on Charlie to contribute immediately."
Bone also announced that Fabian Boeke will end his playing career due to his continued back problems and will become a medical noncounter for WSU, while freshman Nick Witherill has been released from his scholarship.
Boeke, a native of Hamburg, Germany, appeared in three games for the Cougars last season as a sophomore after missing the 2007-08 season due to NCAA eligibility issues. During that season, Boeke underwent back surgery. Witherill, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., appeared in six games for the Cougars as a freshman in 2008-09, averaging 3.3 minutes an outing.
"Fabian's medical situation will not allow him to continue playing for the Cougars, though he will remain at Washington State to complete his education," said Bone. "As for Nick, he is going to pursue his athletic and academic opportunities at another school and we wish him nothing but the best."
Bone added that the Cougars have no plans to fill Witherill's scholarship at this time.
