WSU POST-GAME QUOTES
November 12, 2005
Bill Doba, WSU HEAD COACH
I couldn't be prouder of the guys after what we have been through and to battle like they did against the tenth ranked team in the nation is quite a tribute to them. We played a lot better defensively and having Will (Derting) back, I know he made a few plays, just his presence I think helped us a lot. He couldn't play a lot, obviously, and hopefully he can play more.
I think we may have lost Troy Bienemann with a knee. They are examining that right now.
Our kids I thought competed. We got behind and came back again and got it tied up. We just didn't make a play at the end to force the kicker and get us in overtime.
I didn't go for the fourth-and-one. We kicked a field goal. Same result.
That kid is a great athlete and he made a great run, the quarterback did. They have good players. They did a nice job, the quarterback with that little option thing and he took off down the field with it.
Our kids battled. I can't ask any more than that from them.
I wanted to see those seniors come off...I told afterwards, I don't care what the score is, I still think you are winners. It would have been real easy to give it up when it was down 10 points there 31-21 or whatever it was. But they didn't. they went out and made some stops. It was good to see Loren Langley make a kick under pressure when he had to have one. There was a lot of positive things and thenegative thing is we didn't win and we need to get over the hump.
(Fired up after being down) They have been doing that all year. You don't have to say much to them. Our assistant coaches do a great job. They wanted to win as bad as anybody. They came battling back.
Alex Brink, WSU QUARTERBACK
It has been a tough season so far. We have been in a lot of ball games right down to the wire. I think this was the fifth game we have lost by three points or whatever. It is the same outcome, but it seems like we find a lot of ways to get there. Whether it is poor decision making by me, or whatever. It doesn't really matter because the outcome is the same.
We need to find a way to get past that for this next week and for the off-season and for next year.
It is tough to put into words how frustrating it is. I can't sit here and honestly tell you we are an 0-7 football team. I know we are because that is our record in this league, but we are not that bad. We have been in too many ballgames and we have been so close to so many teams, I can't say that.
(Apple Cup) It gives us something to build on for next year. Get something for these seniors that have worked so hard these past four or five years, something to send them out on the right note. It is something we need to get, we have to get.
(Harrison) That guy deserves everything that has come to him. He has to work so hard and obviously goes out and backs everything up. For him to get that record I think is the perfect thing. I think maybe a little national recognition is something he deserves too.
WASHINGTON STATE VS. OREGON
NOVEMBER 12, 2005
Oregon Head Coach Mike Bellotti
(on the game) "It was a great win. It was another example of pride and poise, and very good execution down the stretch. I was really pleased with our young quarterbacks; both of them. They both made plays and contributed to this victory."
(on WSU) "Washington State is a very good football team. They haven't quit, they have weapons, and they did a nice job."
Quarterback Brady Leaf
(on how it feels) "It's great. It's great to get a win out here. I've come to a lot of games here and dreamed about playing in this stadium since I was a little kid."
(on what Ryan told him) "He told me congratulations and that he was proud of me. He said that I played well."
