LOS ANGELES - Taylor Ard's two-run homer sparked a seven-run fourth inning Saturday as Washington State evened its Pac-10 Conference series with the 10-2 win over the USC Trojans. Junior lefty Spencer Jackson (1-2) picked up his first win of the season for the Cougars with three and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing only one run on four hits.

Washington State improved to 25-28 overall and 9-17 in conference while USC fell to 25-30 overall, 13-13 in conference.

Collin Slaybaugh was 3-for-5 with three RBI while Patrick Claussen registered his first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the ninth.

Austin Wood (5-7) took the loss for the Trojans after giving up six runs in three and one-third innings.

Kevin Roundtree led off the USC first with a triple to center before scoring on Ricky Oropesa's RBI single. Wood allowed just one hit through three innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth. After Derek Jones singled, Ard blasted his ninth homer on the year to dead center to put WSU ahead, 2-1. A single and two walks loaded the bases before Wood hit Trace Tam Sing with a pitch to force in a run. Slaybaugh blooped a two-run single to center for the 5-1 lead. With runners at first and third, Slaybaugh broke for second and beat the pickoff throw as Tam Sing stole home. After a passed ball moved Slaybaugh to third, Cody Bartlett singled him home to cap the inning.

The series finale starts at noon Sunday.
