COUGARS SEEK THIRD-STRAIGHT NCAA POSTSEASON APPEARANCE
The Washington State University baseball team opens its 2011 season in the Golden State when it takes on Cal State Bakersfield for a three-game series, Feb. 18-20 at Hardt Field in Bakersfield, Calif...game times are 2 p.m. (Friday), 1 p.m. (Saturday) and noon (Sunday)...due to on-going improvements at Hardt Field, no phone lines are available at this time so there will not be radio broadcasts of the game...live stats will be run by Cal State Bakersfield on www.gorunners.com and will also be available on www.wsucougars.com.

WASHINGTON STATE RANKED
The Cougars are ranked 31st in Collegiate Baseball's top 40 and 34th in the National Collegiate Basebal Writers Association top 35...first time since 1991 (No. 24 Collegiate Baseball) that Washington State is nationally-ranked in the preseason and the first time since 1989 (No. 19 Baseball America/No. 25 Collegiate Baseball) the Cougars have been tabbed among the nation's best in two polls prior to the season's first pitch.

BUILDING A PROGRAM
Prior to 2009, Washington State's last NCAA postseason appearance in baseball was 1990...Cougars have earned an at-large bid in each of the last two seasons...first back-to-back NCAA postseason bids since 1987-88...WSU has 34 Pacific-10 Conference victories during that time, its most in a two-year span since 1989-90 (35)...Cougars have been prolific at protecting their home field with a 41-11 mark...the 78.9 winning percentage is the second highest in the Pac-10 behind Arizona State...under Donnie Marbut, Washington State has a winning record in each of the last five seasons, including four years with at least 30 wins...from 1995-2004, the 10 seasons between legendary Cougar Head Coach Charles "Bobo" Brayton and Marbut's arrival, Washington State had two winning seasons and failed to win 30 games in any campaign...Marbut is the only Cougar mentor besides Brayton to average at least 30 wins during his WSU career.

COUGARS IN FEBRUARY
In 2010, Washington State swept six February games by defeating Seattle twice at home and knocking off Bethune-Cookman and Texas Tech twice each at the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic in Lubbock, Texas...Cougars were swept in a three-game series at No. 22 Arkansas in 2009 and lost two of the three meetings in a four-game series at home against No. 16 Oklahoma to go 1-5 in February...Washington State has won 11-straight games in the opening month against nonranked opponents...Cougars have won six in a row on the road against nonranked opponents in February.
