Lisa Hart Named Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State University Head Coach Lisa Hart has been named the Pac-12 Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year while junior Liudmila Vasilieva was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team, the conference announced Friday.

Hart, in her ninth year in Pullman, has led the Cougars to a 19-6 record this season and a spot in the 2012 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. This season Cougar tennis has recorded many highlights, including wins over six nationally-ranked teams, a weekend sweep over No. 26 Arizona and No. 27 Arizona State, the first time that has occurred in school history and the first win over Arizona State in 19 matches. The Cougars also posted six conference victories, more than any previous WSU team, and finished fifth in the Pac-12 Conference.

"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the Pac 12 coaches, a group I respect as among the best in women's college tennis," said Hart. "This recognition is a reflection of the determination and efforts of the young women that I have had the privilege of coaching as well as my assistant coach, Eka Burduli."

Vasilieva, a junior from Yekaterinburg, Russia, received second-team honors as she has accumulated a 32-8 record this season, the second-most single-season wins in school history. She is 19-6 in dual matches and has a season-best 16-match win streak earlier in the year. Vasilieva is 3-5 against nationally-ranked players tis season, including a win over then-13th-ranked Zoe Scandalis of USC, after which she rose to a season-best ranking of 43. She has been ranked among the nation's top players much of the spring season and will participate in the 2012 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship later this month in Athens, Ga.

This is the second all-conference honor for Vasilieva, who was a Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention honoree following the 2010 season.
