Daniel Selected to Academic All-American Team

Men's basketball standout receives third team honors.

March 19, 1997

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State junior Carlos Daniel was named to the GTE Academic All-America men's basketball third team Wednesday.

Daniel (Louisville, Colo.), a history major with a 3.52 grade point average, is just the second Washington State men's basketball player ever to earn GTE Academic All-America recognition. He joins Brian Quinnett (1985-89), who was a first team pick in 1989.

Daniel put together his finest season for the 13-17 Cougars. He was second in the Pacific-10 Conference in rebounding (8.3 per game average), tenth in scoring (15.2), fifth in blocked shots (1.6) and seventh in field goal percentage (.519).

Kansas senior Jacque Vaughn, a business administration major (3.72 GPA), was named the GTE Academic All-American of the Year.

The GTE Academic All-America teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
