STANFORD, Calif. - The Washington State Men's Golf Team produced a second day of solid play to finish the U.S. Intercollegiate, played on the par-70, 6,742 yard Stanford Golf Course, with a ninth place standing.

"We went into this tournament expected to finish 12th," said Head Golf Coach Walt Williams. "Therefore, to come out with a ninth place finish is a good thing."

The top finisher for the Cougars was senior Chris Collins, who completed the tournament in a tie for 24th. Collins shot a third round score of 71 to give him an overall score of 217. Redshirt senior Jordan Madison finished in a tie for 36th with a final score of 220.

Freshman Austin Hurt shot a third round score of 76, ending the day with a total score of 224. Finishing one stroke behind Hurt was freshman Kevin Tucker, who shot a 71 in the third round and finished the competition with a score of 225. Freshman Nick Grigsby completed the tournament with a score of 232.

"We played some good rounds today," Williams said. "We beat some teams that were ranked ahead of us, and we have some confidence built up going into the Pac-10 tournament."

As a team the Cougars finished with a score of 875 to keep them in the top-10.

The men will be back in action Monday, April 23, when they travel to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the Pacific-10 Championships.
