PULLMAN, Wash. -- - The Washington State football team will begin its quest to return to the postseason in 2006 as they begin a month of spring drills with a two-hour practice session Tuesday, March 21.

The Cougars will hold 12 practices and three scrimmages over a 26-day period in March and April, culminating with the annual Crimson and Gray Game Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. Additional scrimmages will be held Saturday, April 1 at 9:30 a.m. and Saturday, April 8 at 9:30 a.m., and are open to the media and public.

The Cougars return 49 letterwinners from last year's 4-7 team that fell five times by four points or less, then finished strong with a win over Washington.

The list of returnees includes seven starters on each side of the ball, plus kicker Loren Langley. During spring drills the Cougar coaching staff will be searching for offensive replacements for startersTroy Bienemann at tight end, linemen Nick Mihlhauser and Norvell Holmes and All-American running back Jeroime Harrison. Defensively WSU must replace starters Adam Braidwood at end, linebacker Will Derting and cornerbacks Alex Teems and Wally Dada, along with four-year punter Kyle Basler.

The returning squad breakdown includes 17 seniors, 16 juniors and 16 sophomores who have all earned letters. Eight of the returning starters line up on offense, six on defense, and one kicker.

All Tuesday through Friday practices begin at 3:30 p.m. and are also open to the media and public.
