PULLMAN, Wash. - While the regular season is still a week away, the Washington State University soccer team still has one opportunity to square off against a different color uniform.
The Cougars will play Idaho in Moscow, Saturday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. in the lone exhibition match on the 2010 Washington State schedule.
The event will serve as a tune-up for the Cougars' season opener against perennial power Florida State, Aug. 20. The Seminoles, ranked sixth nationally, and No. 21 Washington State will play at 3 p.m. in the WSU Invitational. That match will follow Gonzaga and Utah which begins at noon.
The tournament will conclude, Sunday, Aug. 22 with the Seminoles and Bulldogs meeting at 11 a.m. followed by Utah and Washington State at 1:30 p.m.
The Cougars return 13 letterwinners, including seven starters, off a 2009 team that matched the school record with 14 victories and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. Idaho was 9-10-0 a year ago.
Last season, the Cougars and Vandals met in the season opener for both schools at Lower Soccer Field. Brandi Vega, Kiersten Dallstream and Tiara Pittman each tallied a first half goal while Meghan Berlingo and Ariana Byrd combined to blank the Vandals in a 3-0 Washington State victory.
