CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Washington State men's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Giustina Memorial Classic in sixth place Monday, on the par-72, 7030 yard Trysting Tree Golf Club. The Cougar men fired a two round total of 570 (-6) and are only three strokes behind fifth place UC Irvine.

Leading the Cougar contingent thus far is freshman Nick Ellis who posted a two round total of 140 (-4), good for a tie at eighth. Sophomore Nick Grigsby also finished the first two rounds in the top 10 and only one stroke behind his teammate Ellis. Grigsby is 3-under par and goes into round two with a total score of 141.

Sophomore Kevin Tucker also finished both rounds under par and remains in a tie for 16th with his score of 143 (-1). Sophomore Austin Hurt and senior Jordan Mason finished the first day of play at 6-over and round out the Cougar scorers.

"The men played solid for being such a young team," head coach Walt Williams said. "Only one player traveling this week has ever played this course before the tournament. They are all playing good solid golf and I know these young men are going to get better as the season progresses."
