What's Happening This Week: The Cougars travel north to Spokane to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs for the Fawley Cup Saturday, March 29...races begin at 8 a.m. on the Silver Lake course at Medical Lake.

Fawley History: WSU's and Gonzaga's varsity eight boats are set for the 18th annual race for the Fawley Cup...Cougars have taken the cup in 15 of the regatta's 17 years...Bulldogs' two victories came in 1997 and 2007.

WSU Head Rowing Coach Jane LaRiviere on Gonzaga: "They beat Oregon State last Saturday so they have definitely been developing. They have a new head coach this year, the novice coach from last year who was very successful. I think they are probably faster than they were last year so we're going to have to come out with our guns blazing."

LaRiviere on the Fawley Cup: "It's so nice to have somebody to race in our own backyard. Gonzaga has really improved in the last few years and it's obviously much better for us to have a competitive team close by to make the racing a little more intense. They won one last year and we're going to do everything in our power to turn it around this year."

Cougars v. Bulldogs: WSU and Gonzaga met twice during the fall season...the varsity eight crossed the finish line 16 seconds ahead of the Bulldogs, Oct. 20, at the Head of the Spokane...both the varsity eight and second varsity eight bested Gonzaga's varsity eight squad, Oct. 26, at the Cougar's home regatta, the Head of the Snake.

On Tap for the Cougars: The varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight will head south for the San Diego Crew Classic April 5-6, while the third varsity eight and second novice eight will travel to Seattle to take on cross-state rival Washington at the Husky Invitational April 5.

Coaching Staff: Jane LaRiviere enters her sixth year as the WSU head women's rowing coach...Cougars earned a program-best fourth place at the NCAA National Championships in 2006 under LaRiviere...she is joined by assistant Tara Medina, novice coach Christina Meyer and graduate assistant Paul Hawksworth...Medina is in her second year as an assistant...she joined WSU women's rowing after coaching one year at Michigan...Meyer is entering her third year as the novice coach...Hawksworth is a second-year graduate assistant.
