Las Cruces, NM - Washington State University's Matt Hartley (73-73 --- 146) finished 36-holes of the Herb Wimberly/Coca Cola Classic in a nine-way tie for 17th place. Heavy rain cancelled the final 18-holes of the tournament hosted by New Mexico State.
Hartley, a redshirt senior from Longview, Wash., earned his second top 25 finish by shooting a one over par 73 in both rounds. Redshirt junior Eric Toomey (73-74 --- 147) and senior Jeremy Champoux (73-74 --- 147) were only one stroke behind Hartley and tied for 26th place.
Texas-Arlington (574) captured the tournament title, while Washington State (586) placed sixth. Host New Mexico State (591) finished tenth. New Mexico's Wil Collins (72-64 --- 136) took top individual honors.
The Herb Wimberly/Coca Cola Classic concluded the fall season for the WSU men's golf team. The Cougar men are scheduled to tee off the spring season at the Texas A&M Tournament in Laredo, Tex. March 19 and 20, 1999.
