CLARKSTON, Wash. -- Idaho's Cassie Castleman edged Jessica Black from Washington State on the second playoff hole Tuesday to capture top honors among women competitors at the ninth annual Inland Cup, with the final round of the two-day tournament played at Quail Ridge Golf Course. Both golfers finished the 36-hole tournament with scores of 139.
In the men's division, Cory Renfrew from the University of British Columbia and Stephen Lane from the University of Victory tied for top honors with scores of 139, one better than WSU's Chris Collins. Renfrew took home the top trophy by virtue of a scorecard tiebreaker.
Collins recorded the top score of the final round among the men with a 65, while on the women's side Black carded a 74 to top the 15 golfers. Collins' score of 65 is a new career low.
Redshirt freshman Mandy Parsons ended the day with a final score of 157 which gave her a 3rd place finish for the tournament. On the men's side, Austin Hurt and Chad Carlson both completed the tournament in a tie for 5th place, with matching scores of 142.
Freshman Kevin Tucker rounded out the tournament in a tie for 7th place. Tucker recorded a new career low with a final round score of 69, completing the competition with a score of 143. Freshman Nick Grigsby recorded a top-25 finish with a final score of 145, resulting in a 13th place finish.
Jordan Madison, Jordan Mason, and Max Reinland rounded out the second day with matching final scores of 146. All three golfers finished in a tie for 14th place. Also making it into the top-25 were senior Kevin Chen, junior Jordan Burns, and freshman Jeff Langin. Chen recorded a final score of 147 in a tie for 19th place, while Burns tallied a score of 148, finishing in 21st place. Langin finished with a score of 150 and a 24th place finish.
The Cougar men will be back in action on Monday, March 5th when they travel to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in the North Ranch Invitational. The Cougar women will be playing this upcoming Saturday and Sunday in Sedona, Ariz. for the Lumberjack Invitational.
