WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State University junior rower Erica Lewis has been named to the 2009 Pacific-10 Women's Rowing All-Conference Team, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Wednesday.
Lewis, a junior from London, Ontario, was a member of the Cougar varsity eight boat which was ranked in the top-20 throughout the season. The Cougars' varsity eight finished sixth at the Pacific-10 Championships May 17, as the team also placed sixth. As a sophomore last season, Lewis competed in the varsity eight that placed third at the Pac-10 Championships and ninth at the NCAA Championships.
Earlier in the week Lewis became the ninth Cougar to receive Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2009 Division I All-West Region First Team honors. She is now eligible for CRCA All-America accolades, which will be announced following the NCAA Rowing Championships held May 29-31 on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution's finish in the varsity eight championship race at the conference championships, which were held May 17 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The conference champion provides four members of the all-conference team, the Pac-10 second-place crew provides three members, and the third-place finisher provides two. All other participating conference crews receive one selection each.
WSU has had a total of 30 rowers earn All-Pac-10 accolades dating back to 1988, while at least one WSU rower has been named to the all-conference team in each of the last 17 seasons.
Individual awards, including Rower of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Coach of the Year, are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, June 3, following this weekend's NCAA Women's Rowing Championships (Cherry Hill, N.J.).
