Final Stats

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's basketball team hit triple digits in its first tune-up of the 2008-09 season, knocking off Showtime Basketball 101-64 in an exhibition game at Friel Court, Sunday.

Five Cougars scored in double figures, including three freshmen from the most heralded recruiting class in school history. Forward Rosie Tarnowski (14 points) and guards April Cook (12) and Katie Grad (11) each scored in double digits in their first action as Cougars. WSU's seven-player freshmen class was the 16th-best recruiting class in the nation according to Blue Star Basketball.

Seniors Katie Appleton and Heather Molzen each scored 14 points, tying Tarnowski for the team lead.

Led by Molzen's eight boards, WSU outrebounded Showtime 55 to 36. Thirty-six of the Cougars' rebounds came on the offensive end as the Cougars tallied 33 second-chance points.

Cook led the Cougars with four assists, as the team combined for 22 assists to only 12 turnovers.

As efficient as the Cougar offense looked, WSU's defense was perhaps even more impressive. The Cougars amassed 22 steals and scored 54 points off of 35 Showtime turnovers. Grad and fellow freshman Danielle LeNoir led WSU with five steals apiece.

The Cougars host their final exhibition game next Sunday (Nov. 9) against Concordia (Ore.). Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Friel Court.
