MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - The Washington State University rowing team, ranked 13th nationally in the latest US Rowing/CRCA Coaches Poll, completed a sweep of Gonzaga in dual competition with victories in all six events, while holding on to the Fawley Cup, in good weather conditions on Silver Lake at Medical Lake, Wash., Saturday morning.

The Cougars took victories in all six events, including the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four, novice eight and second novice eight events. WSU had two boats compete in both the varsity four and second varsity four races. The conditions started out clear with four miles per hour winds, which increased to seven miles per hour though the regatta.

"I was proud of our effort today," WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "We wanted a strong finish and worked hard at that in practice all week. We're looking forward to our home dual with Oregon State next Saturday."

In the race for the Fawley Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the varsity eight event, WSU (bow - Jennifer Hale, Kayla Wakulich, Allie Reilly, Liz England, Lisa Roman, Katie Dick, Sarah Powell, Kendall Boliba, coxswain - Rachel Johnson) out-stroked Gonzaga by over five seconds, clocking in at a time of 6:32.39, compared to the Bulldogs' 6:37.89. The Cougars have won 19 of the 21 Fawley Cups and the last four dating back to 2009 (the 2008 dual was cancelled due to inclement weather).

The second varsity eight boats competed in the fourth event of the day with Gonzaga giving WSU (bow - Liana DeMaris, Elise Jones, Mollie McCabe, Alison Smith, Alex Waddell, Jess Munro, Emily Starkel, Hannah deVos, coxswain - Heidi Kim) its closest race of the morning as the Cougars edged out the Bulldogs by just over three seconds. Washington State clocked a time of 6:38.57, compared to Gonzaga's 6:42.03.

Washington State had two boats compete against just one Gonzaga crew in the varsity four race. WSU's "A" squad (bow - Carly Johnson, Mickey Aylard, Gina Head, Ashlee Bonahoom, coxswain - Emily Boquet) finished first with a time of 7:18.80. GU placed second at 7:26.55, while the Cougars' "B" crew (bow - Brianne Gould, Ella Odland, Kasia Rademacher, Samantha Hoeper, coxswain - Sarah Wu) came in four second later at 7:30.67.

The first race of the morning was the second varsity four, in which WSU's boat (bow - Erin Ranney, Katelyn Maley, Stephanie Hinkle, Alyssa Rumann, coxswain - Sydney Frederick) came in just over four seconds ahead of GU's, at 7:38.84.

The Cougar novice squad (bow - Johanna Walther, Andrea Yoxsimer, Megan McDonald, Courtney Hammer, Eric Schuster, Carter Marks, Noel Christiansen, Kellen Srb, coxswain - Raeanne Marks) continued its hot streak with a nearly 10-second victory over the Bulldogs, clocking in at 6:53.81 compared to 7:02.83.

Two other WSU novice crews competed in the second novice eight event with the WSU "A" crew (bow - Jordan Pritchard, Julia Monroe, Lauren Powell, Kelly Heagerty, Chloe Payne, Molly Culwell, Alexandra Vaughn, Krista Lizardi, coxswain - Hannah Piazza) finishing first with a time of 7:11.17.
