STANFORD - It was an exciting weekend for the No. 5 Washington State University rowing team as the Cougars won 11 of 12 races at the Stanford Invitational.

In the first day of the two-day regatta the Cougars went undefeated. The varsity eight kicked off the weekend Saturday with a close race against the Cardinal, crossing the finish line at Redwood Shores just 1.22 seconds ahead of No. 10 Stanford. The win against the Cardinal was the second straight for Washington State. The two squads met earlier this season at the San Diego Crew Classic. The Cougars placed third at the event with a time of 6:26.1 while Stanford took fourth with a time of 6:29.27.

The second varsity eight and varsity four also outstroked Stanford in the first half of racing Saturday, while the novice eight proved to be too much for UCLA crossing the finish line 22 seconds ahead of the Bruins.

The Cougars didn't back down in the second half of the day as the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four swept Central Florida. The second varsity eight posted the greatest margin of victory with a time of 7:44.3, 20 seconds ahead of UCF.

The novice eight split into two four boats for the second half of the day to take on Stanford in a novice four showdown in which the first place Cougars finished more than 30 seconds ahead of the Cardinal.

The Cougars' winning streak did not end there, however, as the varsity eight won its Sunday match-up against Victoria with a time of 6:38.67, 21 seconds ahead of UVIC. The varsity four also defeated Victoria with a finish time of 7:36.56.

The second varsity eight took on St. Mary's in the second day of the regatta and posted a 12 second victory with a time of 6:50.76.

In a close race, separated by a mere seven seconds, Central Florida's novice eight boat handed WSU its only loss of the weekend Sunday. The race also marked Central Florida's only victory for the event.

Washington State's next event will take place May 3, on its home course at Wawawai Landing against the Oregon State Beavers.
