What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University women's rowing squad kicks off the spring rowing season at the Fawley Cup Regatta against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Silver Lake, Saturday at 9 a.m....the Cougars are coming off a 2002 season where the varsity eight took third place at the Pac-10 Championships, and finished 13th at the NCAA Championships...the novice team also achieved success after winning the San Diego Crew Classic and placing second at the Pac-10 Championships in a photo finish race.
What Happened In The Fall: The Cougars took advantage of the fall training session by competing in the Head of the Spokane against Gonzaga, and the Head of the Lake versus 12 teams, including the University of Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, and the University of Washington....under the guidance of new head coach, Jane LaRiviere, the varsity eight captured first place against Gonzaga, and finished fourth at the Head of the Lake at Montlake Cut in Seattle...the fall campaign also provided an opportunity for newly acquired members of the team and first year rowers to compete in scrimmages in preparation for the spring season.
