What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University women's rowing squad will split into two groups this weekend, as the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight compete at the 30th annual San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif., April 5 and 6. The varsity four and second novice eight will be racing at the Husky Invitational at Montlake Cut in Seattle, Wash., Saturday, April 5.

Cougars Ranked No. 14 in Nation: WSU's varsity eight is currently ranked 14th in the country in the April 2nd US Rowing/NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Polls. Among the Pacific-10 teams ranked, defending champion UW currently holds the top spot, with Stanford coming in third, California fourth, USC seventh and Oregon State 19th.

About the San Diego Crew Classic: The San Diego Crew Classic features 3,400 athletes from 150 different programs across the US. Fellow Pac-10 competitors California, Oregon State, Stanford, USC and Washington will also compete at the event. The Cougar varsity eight will be participating in the Jessop Whittier Cup where they will race against 13 other squads. The Cougars have the No. 5 seed in the race, and the top three finishers will move on to the final heat, Sunday.

Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on the San Diego Crew Classic: "We're excited to get down there and see how we measure up against the rest of the Pac-10 at this point. I know that we're going to be measuring ourselves against probably three or four of the top five boats in the country at San Diego. We'll get a good idea of where we stand and what we need to improve on before Pac-10 Championships, May 18th. I think our athletes are going to lay down their best race at this point in the season and we'll just see how we stack up."

WSU at Last Year's San Diego Crew Classic: Last year the Cougar varsity eight finished fourth in the first heat, and seventh in the Whittier Cup finals. The novice eight captured the Grand Final, taking home the trophy for the San Diego Crew Classic.

WSU at Last Year's Husky Invitational: The second varsity eight won their match-up against UW. The varsity four came up just short of the Huskies by three seconds.
