BELMONT, Calif. -- Enduring a second day of racing, and performing well, the Washington State women's rowing team stepped up and swept all races at the Stanford Invitational Sunday, racing that featured the season's fastest finish times for two Cougar crews.

Redwood Shores proved a favorable location for sixteenth-ranked WSU as both the Varsity and Second Varsity eight boats bested their fasted times of the spring season in afternoon races against San Diego State. The Cougars' Varsity eight beat San Diego State by 11.5 seconds to finish in a time of six minutes, 42.4 seconds. The Second Varsity eight beat San Diego State by the same margin, and finished in 6:49.2. In the Novice eight race, WSU crossed the finish line first in 7:04.5 before San Diego State who crossed in 7:27.5.

"I think especially for the Second Varsity, this is the most solid racing we've done to date," WSU head coach Tammy Crawford said. "Going into finals week, the team is mentally and physically exhausted. This has been a grueling weekend for us, but the team stepped up and I think benefited a lot by racing four times in a row."

WSU bounced back from an afternoon loss to USC Saturday, and beat Kansas in all races of the morning session. The Cougars' Varsity eight crew finished in a time of six minutes, 45.9 seconds, beating Kansas by 3.96 seconds. WSU's 2nd Varsity eight finished in 6:55.6 seconds, 6.65 seconds ahead of Kansas. The Cougar Varsity four completes the sweep, winning their race by 8 seconds and finishing with a time of 7:44.6.

The same line-up in the Varsity Four will head over to face Washington at the Opening Day at Seattle, Saturday, May 6. Being graduation weekend in Pullman, crew line-ups for Saturday will not be available until later in the week.
