WESTWOOD, Calif. -- Junior Zach Bode hit a pinch-hit home run in the ninth inning to tie the game at five, but it wasn't enough as the UCLA Bruins completed a series sweep of the Washington State Cougar baseball team with a 6-5 Pacific-10 Conference extra inning game Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Memorial Stadium.

The Cougars have endured four consecutive Pac-10 series sweeps at the hands of Stanford, Arizona State, Arizona, and now UCLA. WSU has lost 13 straight league games and with an overall record of 18-22 have dropped 17 of their last 20.

UCLA evened its overall record at 24-24 and are above the .500 mark in the Pac-10 for the first time this year at 8-7. The Bruins continue to make a late run for the NCAA tournament winning nine of its last 11 games and seven straight in conference action.

Reliever Chad Cislak picked up the win out of the bullpen after blowing a save opportunity in the ninth inning. Cislak gave up three hits and one run while striking out three to improve his season record to 3-1. Starter Bobby Roe gave a solid outing giving up four runs off five hits in six and a third innings.

For the Cougars Les McTavish was saddled with the loss as he was credited with giving up the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Spot starter Reggie Rivard contributed four and two-thirds innings of solid pitching giving up three runs.

WSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning when Ray Hattenburg (Spokane, Wash.) singled home Boyd Robertson (Richland, Wash.) Hattenburg now has a 10 game hitting streak and after going 3-for-5 Sunday is hitting .406 (67-165) on the year. Senior catcher Jeff Scherer connected on his sixth home run of the year in the fifth inning.

Not to be outdone in the first frame, the Bruins answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning off the bat of Bill Scott. Scott drove a Rivard offering deep over the right field fence for his 17th home run of the year.

WSU started to climb back in the game with a two-run rally in the seventh inning. Shawn Stevenson tallied a run-scoring double and Boyd Robertson scored another with a sharp single up the middle. In the ninth Bode stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter with one out, and hit his eighth home run of the year to tie the game at five.

With the bases loaded in the 10th inning Charles Merricks won the game for UCLA with a single scoring catcher Jason Green. WSU is now 0-2 in extra inning games.

The Cougars will return to action this week with two non-conference games on the road at Lewis-Clark State Tuesday and at Gonzaga Wednesday. Game times are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Harris Field in Lewiston Tuesday, and 4 p.m. at August A.R.T. Stadium in Spokane Wednesday.
