Final Stats

PULLMAN - Despite double-doubles from Jazmine Perkins and Katie Madison, the Washington State women's basketball team fell 80-70 to Saint Mary's Thursday at Friel Court. The Cougars dropped to 2-4 on the season, while the Gaels evened their record at 4-4.

Perkins, a sophomore guard, posted the second double-double of her career with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-digit rebounding effort in as many games. Madison, a redshirt junior center, set career highs in both points (13) and rebounds (15), leading the Cougars in the latter statistical category.

"We did a lot of good things, but just as we thought, this was a very good team," WSU Head Coach June Daugherty said. "Their shooting was unbelievable, but I think our defense improved in the second half. I thought we settled down, but we need to show much better composure when we lose leads."

The Cougar defense forced a season-high 36 turnovers on the night, and recorded a season-high 20 steals including eight from freshman guard KiKi Moore. Moore, who set WSU's NCAA freshman steals record with the total, entered the game leading the conference and ranked seventh nationally in the statistical category.

Despite the pressure from the Cougars, the Gaels shot 67.6 percent (25-of-37) from the floor on the night, and had 21 assists on the 25 made field goals. Saint Mary's also made 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the 3-point line.

After being down by as many as 22 in the second half, WSU was able to cut the lead to three with 8-minutes, 2-seconds left, but that was as close as the team would get.

The Cougars also received double-digit scoring games from Moore (10) and sophomore guard April Cook (16). Each has scored 10-plus in all six 2009-10 Cougar games, and Cook has now scored double digits in 16-straight.

The Cougars continue their homestand Saturday against Wyoming. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Friel Court.
