What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University men's golf team travels to Laredo, Texas, for the Border Olympics, March 14-15...the 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club...final results from each round will be posted at www.wsucougars.com.
The Field: The 14-team field pairs Washington State with three teams ranked in the top 50 nationally including No. 34 Lamar, No. 36 UT-Arlington and No. 42 Arkansas...the Cougars also face Baylor, Houston, UL-Lafayette, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rice, USC-Aiken, Texas State, UTEP and Wyoming.
Traveling for the Cougars: Five Cougars will be traveling to Texas to take a swing at victory...the Cougar contingent includes senior Jordan Mason, sophomores Nick Grigsby and Kevin Tucker and freshmen Xavier Dailly and Nick Ellis.
Last Time at the Border Olympics: In 2007, the Cougars were led by Austin Hurt and finished the tournament in 12th place...the team combined for a total score of 892...Hurt played consistent throughout the tournament carding a 220 (+4) to finish in a tie for 32nd...Chris Collins finished close behind with a total score of 221...Jordan Madison carded a 222, Grigsby ended with 233 and Tucker rounded out the Cougar contingent with 234.
Last Time Out: The Cougar men began the spring season with a second place finish at the Cuthbert Cup, at Kiawah Island after inclement weather cut the tournament short...the men fired a two-day total of 579 (+3) and three Cougars placed in the top 25...Ellis led the team and finished tied for second shooting a 3-under par 141...Ellis earned his second top 10 and fourth top 25 finish of his young career...Tucker cruised up the leaderboard with a second round score of 69 to end the tournament tied for sixth with a total score of 143...Tucker earned his second career top 10 finish...Grigsby fired a 146 to finish in a tie for 16th...Grigsby notched his seventh career top 25 finish which is second among all active Cougars...Dailly carded a 149 and Austin Hurt finished with 156 to round out the Cougar contingent.
