PULLMAN, Wash. - Sage Romberg's jumper with nine seconds remaining propelled the Washington State University women's basketball team to a 64-63 win over Lewis-Clark State in exhibition action at Beasley Coliseum, Sunday.

After her offensive heroics, Romberg, a freshman guard/forward from McKinleyville, Calif., clinched the win with a block of Lauren Daling's field goal attempt as time expired.

"I knew it (the time) was getting down there," Romberg said. "I was just trying to get to an open spot. I wanted to be ready to shoot and luckily it went in."

"Our execution was still not where we needed it to be offensively but down the stretch when it counted the most we were able to get a nice look for Sage and she was able to knock it down," Head Coach June Daugherty said.

Romberg's shot completed a second half comeback that found the Cougars down by as much as eight at 47-39 with 15:29 remaining. WSU's comeback followed a rally by Lewis-Clark State, which was down by as much as 11 (25-14) in the first half.

Jazmine Perkins led a trio of Cougars in double figures with 15 points. Romberg added 13 and Carly Noyes scored 12.

The Cougars open the regular season Friday, Nov. 12 at St. Mary's (Calif.). The home opener is vs. Nebraska, Monday, Nov.22.

"I like this group, we've got a lot of talent," Daugherty said. "We just got to keep working hard together and execute at a higher level. We do that it can be a really bright season for this program and I'm looking forward to that."
