PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's basketball team fell 57-41 to Oregon Saturday at Friel Court, dropping to 8-8 on the season and 1-4 in the Pacific-10 Conference. With the victory the Ducks improved to 7-9 overall and 4-2 in conference action. Freshman guard April Cook led the Cougars with 12 points.

"Oregon played a fantastic game," WSU Head Coach June Daugherty said. "They played a great two halves. I thought that their transition offense gave us a lot of problems in the first half. We adjusted at halftime, and I thought we got a little better at that. For whatever reason, we were a step slow defensively tonight."

The first half followed a different storyline than the Cougars are used to. Leading the Pac-10 with a turnover margin of plus-4.9, the Cougars turned the ball over 12 times and forced only seven in the opening stanza. WSU also shot only 31 percent (9-of-29) from the floor, while the Ducks shot 44.1 percent on 15-of-34 shooting.

The Ducks were able to extend their lead to 18 in the second half, though the Cougars did win the turnover battle in the second period, committing seven turnovers to Oregon's nine. WSU shot just 29.5 percent from the floor on the game (18-of-61), while the Ducks finished the game shooting 41 percent (25-of-61).

Freshman guard Jazmine Perkins tied her career high with eight rebounds, while centers Jessica Oestreicher and Ebonee Coates each recorded a block. Coates, who tied the school single-game record against Oregon State (six) Thursday night, now has a block in six consecutive games.

The Cougars hit the road again, heading to Los Angeles next week to square off against UCLA (Jan. 22) and USC (Jan. 24).
