What's Happening This Week: The Cougars will travel to Seattle for the 27th annual Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday, Nov. 11...races will begin at 8 a.m....the three-mile regatta is hosted by the Lake Washington Rowing Club and is the largest fall regatta west of the Mississippi...the Head of the Lake Regatta stretches along a winding Lake Washington Ship Canal course from the University of Washington, through Portage Bay and Lake Union, to the Fremont Bridge...the event attracts more than 2,500 rowers each year.
The 2006 Head of the Lake: Last year's Head of the Lake Regatta was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Familiar Foes: WSU varsity eight and second varsity eight crews will face cross-state rival Washington and fellow Pac-10 school, Oregon State...all three boats will also compete against Gonzaga, an opponent the crews have defeated twice already this season.
Last Competition: WSU's women's crews took on the Gonzaga Bulldogs Oct. 26 at Wawawai Landing at the Head of the Snake...both the WSU varsity eight and second varsity finished the 5,000 meter course ahead of the Bulldog's varsity eight...the WSU third varsity eight crossed the finish line 30 seconds before the Gonzaga third varsity eight with a time of 21:06.63.
Directions to Head of the Lake: From 520 Westbound (toward Seattle) exit Montlake Boulevard. Turn Right (north). Follow Montlake past the stadium, past Hec Ed Pavillion. Just past cement overpass to Hec Ed, take second drive to right toward Parking Lot and Boathouse From I-5, take Eastbound 520, exit Montlake Blvd. Turn left at stop light Follow Montlake past the stadium, past Hec Ed Pavillion. Just past cement overpass to Hec Ed, take second drive to right toward Parking Lot and Boathouse It's the third right from overpass, the first two rights are a parking area for the ticket office.
