PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's cross country team moved up five spots in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region poll, Monday, Oct. 29. The Cougars also received votes in the USTFCCCA Div. I National Poll Tuesday.
The women moved from the ninth spot in the USTFCCCA West Region poll up to the fifth spot, just behind the four Pacific-10 teams that finished ahead of them at the conference championship. WSU also tied Columbia with 15 votes received in the USTFCCCA Div. I National Poll.
"We are a lot better team than we were at Pre-Nationals and it shows," WSU Head Coach Jason Drake said. "Now we just have to go perform at the NCAA regional meet."
The Cougars placed fifth overall at the Pacific-10 Championships Saturday, Oct. 27, in Corvallis Oregon. Senior Isley Gonzalez led WSU at the meet with an eighth place finish, earning All-Pac-10 Second Team honors.
The Cougars have a week off from competition before heading to the NCAA West Regionals Saturday, Nov. 10, in Eugene, Ore.
