Cougar Men in 13th After Husky Invite Suspended for Darkness

BREMERTON, Wash. - Despite solid performances from young Cougar standouts, the Washington State men's golf team sits in 13th place after the opening day of play at the Husky Invitational.

Round two of the tournament was suspended for darkness and two groups were unable to finish play at the par-72, 7,061-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club. However, the Cougar men were able to finish both rounds of play and fired a two-round total of 618.

Sophomore Austin Hurt, a native of Bainbridge Island, Wash., led the Cougars with a strong performance as he fired a two-round total of 152 (+8). Ending the first round in a tie for 48th, Hurt then shot a 2-over par 74 to finish the day in a tie for 33rd.

Sophomore Nick Grigsby also finished well during the first day of competition and remains in a tie at 45th. Grigsby's two-round total of 155 included a second round score of 76 which propelled him 11 spots up the leader board.

Freshman Xavier Dailly fired a two-round total of 156 and sits in a tie for 50th after the first day of competition. Freshman Nick Ellis, who remains in a tie for 54th, and sophomore Kevin Tucker, who finished the day at 65th, round out the Cougar contingent.

The Cougar men hope to move up the leader board as the final round of the Husky Invitational begins Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 a.m. The two groups yet to finish will tee off at 8 a.m. Tuesday, to finish the second round.
