PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State soccer team will begin its 2004 campaign with an exhibition match against the University of Idaho Tuesday at 6 p.m. The match will consist of three thirty minute periods and will take place at Wicks Field on the University of Idaho campus. The Cougars will face a non-conference schedule that includes four pre-season NSCAA nationally-ranked teams including No. 12 Tennessee, No. 14 Brigham Young, No. 20 Pepperdine and No. 24 Utah. This fall will mark the second season under head coach Matt Potter and assistant Lindsey Jorgensen and the first for assistant Kirk Nelson. The Cougars return 16 letterwinners and four starters from their 2003 squad including co-captains Katie Hultin, who was a Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention goalkeeper, and senior midfielder Christie Spear. Beginning their WSU careers are 12 newcomers that make up a recruiting class that was ranked 12th in the west and 47th out of 306 Division I teams. In 2003 WSU finished 6-11-2 overall and 2-5-2 in Pac-10 play after facing its most difficult non-conference schedule in program history that included five nationally-ranked teams.
