Seattle, Wash. - The Washington State University women's rowing squads competed hard but couldn't beat the Huskies at the Opening Day Regatta at Montlake Cut, Saturday.

The second varsity eight came in second in the Women's Erickson Cascade Cup, finishing two seconds behind the University of Washington. The Cougars recorded a time of 6:57.38 on the 2000m course bettering Oregon State's 7:05.73 and Notre Dame's 7:10.12.

The novice eight boat cut through the water with a time of 7:21.87 for third place, just behind Oregon State at 7:16.87, and UW at 7:06.82.

"I think we had a good day racing", WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "The second varsity eight and the varsity four were both competitive and I was pleased with their performance."
