CLARKSTON, Wash. - The Washington State University men's golf team defeated the University of Idaho at the Inland Cup Friday, breaking the school record for the lowest single-round total with a 12-under par 268.

WSU earned its second tournament victory of the season and gave Head Coach Walt Williams his 13th win at the helm of the Cougar men's program.

The Cougars fired a two-round total of 559 and won the tournament by 13 strokes on the par-70, 6,121-yard Quail Ridge golf course and at the par-72, 6,712-yard Lewiston Golf and Country Club. Freshman Nick Ellis took home the individual title with a 6-under 136.

"The men played a spectacular round in the morning and Ellis played solid just like he has for most of the season," Williams said. "Overall the men had a great performance."

Ellis earned the first tournament victory of his career and cracked the list for top 10 finishes in a season with four (T6th). Ellis' first round score of 67 is the lowest round of his career.

Junior Brandon Black and sophomores Nick Grigsby and Kevin Tucker fired first round scores of 66 which tie them with seven other Cougars for the third lowest single-round score in school history. Tucker ended the day with a total of 138, good for second place overall and the best finish of his career.
