TUCSON, Ariz. - Washington State senior Ryan Camp made his last Pacific-10 Championship a memorable one by tying for 24th place at The Gallery at Dove Mountain, a par 72, 7,412 yard course Wednesday.
"We are glad to see Ryan finish in the top 25 for his last Pac-10 event," said Head Coach Walt Williams of his captain. "He has been a great player for us and we will be sad to see him go."
Camp fired a 72-hole total of 301 and finished 13 strokes over par. His best round came in the second when he carded a 1-under 71. This marks Camp's sixth top 25 finish of the season and 20th of his career. He now ranks fourth all-time on WSU's career top 25 finish list. Camp's previously best finish at the Pac-10s was a 32nd place tie.
Freshman Matt Fladwood made his best showing of his young career. Fladwood shot a final round of 74 (+2) and finished with a 14-over 302 to tie for 28th.
"Matt played really well," said Williams. "He is a big, strong kid and kept the ball inbounds for the most part."
The Cougars shot a team best 374 in the second round and finished in ninth place of the tough Pac-10 field that consisted of six teams ranked in the top 25 and nine in the top 100 nationally according to Golfstat. After about an hour rain delay in the afternoon, play picked back up in difficult conditions that included a strong wind.
"We didn't play particularly well, but it was a very difficult golf course," said Williams. "We played a decent second round and had some low scores individually. We just didn't have great scores as a team. That is what you have to expect with a young team. This gives them some experience and something to learn from."
Jordan Madison improved his placing from the previous round and finished tied for 42nd, while Kevin Chen tied for 51st. Ben Bryson and Chad Carlson rounded out the cougar squad in their second career Pac-10 Championship.
