Cougars Look to Continue Season Success in Spokane

What's Happening This Week: The Cougars women's rowing team will travel to Spokane to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Head of the Spokane Saturday, Oct. 20.

The 2007 Head of the Spokane: Racing will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Gonzaga Boathouse on the Spokane River.

About the Head of the Spokane: The Head of the Spokane is part of Gonzaga's annual Alumni Weekend taking place Oct. 19-21...the race covers a 5,000 meter stretch of the Spokane River.

Last Year at the Head of the Spokane: The WSU second varsity eight beat Gonzaga's varsity eight crew in the first flight by eight seconds...Gonzaga took the top three places in the second flight with the WSU fourth varsity eight finishing fourth.

WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on the Head of the Spokane: "To have a race in our own backyard is great for the team and great for all the parents and supporters who live in the area. It's fun to race, it's a fun place to race and I expect excellent competition"

Coaching Staff: Jane LaRiviere enters her sixth year as WSU head women's rowing coach...Cougars earned a program-best fourth place at the NCAA National Championships in 2006 under LaRiviere...she is joined by assistant Tara Medina, novice coach Christina Meyer, and graduate assistant Paul Hawksworth...Medina is in her second year as an assistant...she joins WSU women's rowing after coaching one year at Michigan...Meyer is entering her third year as the novice coach...Hawksworth is a second year graduate assistant.

On Tap for Next Week: The Cougars return to the Palouse Friday, Oct. 26 to host the Head of the Snake Regatta at Wawawai Landing...WSU will compete against the Gonzaga Bulldogs...race time has not been determined.
