EL CAJON, Calif. - The Washington State University men's golf team moved up six spots during the second round of play to finish the first day of competition in 11th place at the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational Monday.

The Cougar men improved their first round score by 10 strokes to finish day one with a total score of 616 on the par-72, 6,687-yard Willow Glen golf course. Led by freshman Nick Ellis, the Cougars carded a first round total of 313 and then moved up six places, shooting a 303 in the second round.

Ellis sat in a tie for third with his even-par 72 after the first round and began the second only two strokes from the leader. Ellis fired a 5-over par 149 and is in a tie for 10th.
