PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's soccer team opened its preseason camp, Wednesday with two sessions at Lower Soccer Field.
The Cougars return 14 student-athletes and have added nine newcomers that make up the 2011 squad which opens its season at Hawaii, Friday, Aug. 19.
Washington State Head Coach Matt Potter returns for his ninth season and already owns a school record 76 victories.
"It's great to get out here," Potter said. "It's been fun and energetic. We want to be one of the elite programs in the country. The work has been done long before today which is a credit to our players. If this is our starting point, then it's a very good first sign."
With the addition of Colorado and Utah, Washington State enters its first season in the Pac-12. The Cougars will host conference matches against Stanford (Sept. 30), California (Oct. 2), Utah (Oct. 7), Colorado (Oct. 9) and UCLA (Oct. 14).
In addition, there are three nonconference matches at home with Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. against Seattle scheduled to be the home opener. Washington State also host Wyoming (Sept. 2) and Weber State (Sept. 4).
Three will be five opportunities to see the Cougars on the road in the Northwest. Washington State visits Portland (Aug. 26), Gonzaga (Sept. 15) and Idaho (Sept. 18) in nonconference play and will travel to Oregon State (Oct. 21) and Oregon (Oct. 23).
