PULLMAN, Wash. - Senior Brandi Vega recorded the solitary goal in a match between two Pac-12 adversaries, pushing Washington State past Oregon 1-0 at Lower Soccer Field, Sunday.

Vega's seventh conversion of the season came in the 37th minute as she single-handedly beat an Oregon defender and the Duck goalkeeper on her way to the game-winning goal. Vega's speed and skill were on display all day as she took a total of three shots on goal through the duration of the match.

The score was set in motion by a free kick which Delaney Zalud placed in the box at Kourtney Guetlein's feet. The tough Oregon defense was able to interfere and after a skirmish in the box, Vega emerged with control of the ball. She then proceeded to dribble around the Duck defender and beat the goalkeeper with a shot inside the far post.

The win improves WSU's record to 11-6-1 (5-4-1 Pac-12) heading into its final match of the season. The Ducks fall to 7-10-2 and 2-7-1 within the conference.

"This weekend was huge," commented Cougar head coach Keidane McAlpine. "We challenged the team to come out and put two good games together and try to close out the regular season in the right fashion. And they rose to the occasion today."

Washington State's defense had a strong showing, holding Oregon to just six total shots, including only allowing a single shot in the second period. They also restricted the Ducks to just three corner kicks, while WSU's offense recorded 13 shots and 10 corner kicks.

Cougar goalkeeper Gurveen Clair was only forced make one save along the way to recording her fourth solo shutout of the season.

The five seniors on this year's team will be honored during Washington State's final regular season match against Washington. The Pac-12 Networks televised contest will take place at Lower Soccer Field, Friday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
