Auburn, Wash. - After the two rounds of day one in the Opus NW Husky Invitational the WSU Cougars stood in seventh place. In the Final Round on Tuesday the Cougars as a team made their move. Although WSU did not manage to have a golfer finish in the top 10, the Cougars managed to shoot collectively their best round of the tournament a 290 and finish in fifth place overall.
Perhaps the surprise of the tournament this week for WSU was the improvement of freshman Nick Grigsby. Grigsby who was the low finisher of the five Cougars sent to the Mean Green Classic, came roaring back in the final round at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn Wash.. The lone Cougar freshman started the day in a tie for 49th after shooting a (78-75-153, +9).
Grigsby's third round could not be matched by any other Cougar as he fired a five-under 67 with five birdies in his last nine holes. Tuesday's performance moved Grigsby up 26 spots to put him in a tie for 23rd with fellow Cougar Chris Collins who finished the third round with a three-over 75.
Senior Kevin Chen was consistent once again in the final round scoring a 78. His performance on day two left him in the same position as day one. Chen finished the tournament in 53rd place.
The Men's Golf Team will be back in action on Oct.2-3 in the Northwest Collegiate Classic in Corvallis, Ore.
