COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho --- Junior midfielder Kim Morgan knocked in two goals and added an assist as Washington State defeated Eastern Washington 4-0 in an exhibition match Saturday afternoon at Coeur D'Alene High School.
Morgan scored the first goal 15 minutes into the match off a corner kick by sophomore Christie Spear. Just three minutes later, junior forward Rachel Rodrick put WSU up 2-0, sliding a penalty kick past the Eagle goalkeeper.
Morgan scored her second goal of the contest just before halftime to give the Cougars a three-goal advantage heading into the intermission.
Junior Sara Leibowitz and freshman Katie Hultin combined on the shutout in goal for Washington State. Hultin's day ended early, however. The Denver, Colo., native suffered a concussion in the second half, which forced Leibowitz back into the lineup. WSU head coach Dan Tobias was optimistic about Hultin and expects her to return early next week
"Everybody played and we got to gauge ourselves against an opponent instead of the intra-squad scrimmages, which was nice," Tobias said. "After 10 days we are pleased with the team's progress and excited to get back to Pullman and train next week."
WSU opens the regular season Friday, Aug. 30 in Missoula, Mont., at the Montana Diadora Cup against Minnesota.
