PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State freshman guard/forward Sage Romberg was named to the 2011 Pac-10 Media All-Freshman Team, the conference recently announced.
Romberg's honor adds to the growing list of accolades for the McKinleyville, Calif., native. In addition to the media recognition, Romberg earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention and All-Freshman team honors in a vote of the league's 10 head coaches. She is the first player to be named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team since Jazmine Perkins earned the honor in the 2008-09 season, and the seventh in program history.
Romberg played in all 31 games for the Cougars this season, starting 17, and averaging 9.5 points and 4.7 rebounds a game.
She earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 7 when she led the Cougars to a sweep of the Oregon schools at Beasley Coliseum. Coming off the bench in each game, Romberg averaged 16 points and six rebounds a game. The weekend series sweep over the Oregon schools marked the first time the program swept a Pac-10 series since the 2001 season.
The media awards were voted on by a panel of Pac-10 women's basketball media members who cover the league. Click HERE to view the complete team.
