Men's Golf Heads to Mean Green Classic

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team travels to Texas this week to compete in the Mean Green Classic held at the par-72, 7,147 yard Lantana Country Club in Lantana, Texas...the two-day tournament will start Monday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes teeing off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Field: The 13-team field pairs Washington State up against three teams which were ranked higher than the Cougars at the end of last year in Cal Poly, Houston, and New Orleans...The rest of the field consists of Arkansas State, UALR (Little Rock), LA-Lafayette, Missouri State, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Texas State, Troy, and Western Kentucky.

Traveling for the Cougars: Five Cougars will be traveling down to Texas this week: senior Chris Collins, redshirt senior Jordan Madison, senior Kevin Chen, junior Jordan Mason, and freshman Nick Grigsby...This is the first match of the season for the Cougars.

Last Time at the Mean Green Classic: In 2003 Jordan Mason as a freshman in his first tournament as a Cougar, entered the final 18 holes in 25th place, then fired a 1-under 71 to jump 16 positions in the standings to finish with a total of 217 (76-70-71, +1)... as a team, the Cougars finished tied for fifth place with the University of Louisville, and was only two shots behind Louisiana-Monroe and McNeese State University for third place...After firing a tournament low 282 (-6) in the second round, the Cougars finished with a 298 (+10) in the third.

Washington State Men's Golf Notes

--Senior Chris Collins Led the Cougars with a scoring average of 71.3 in five tournaments in fall 2005.

--Senior Kevin Chen Named to the 2005-06 All-Pac-10 Academic Second Team.

--The Cougar's enter the tournament seeded fourth.

--Redshirt senior Jordan Madison named to the 2005-06 All-Pac-10 Academic First Team.

--Junior Jordan Mason on the 2005-06 season tallied a total of two top 10 scored to go along with five top 25 finishes.

-- Nick Grigsby from Central Valley High School in Spokane, Wash. will be making his Cougar debut in the Mean Green Classic.
