Sept. 17, 2009
The 2009-10 women's basketball season doesn't kick off until November, but the Cougars are already hard at work. WSU started its season Sept. 17 with the beginning of team workouts.
"Opening day of full practices was an exciting and highly successful start to the 2009-10 basketball season," WSU Head Coach June Daugherty said. "The energy and work ethic of the entire Cougar team was extremely high. Our upperclassman exhibited strong leadership and retained much of the Cougar playing system from seasons' past.
"We are more athletic than last year, and overall, more talented at every position. The strong commitment to offseason skill and strength development by our student-athletes was apparent throughout the entire practice. We certainly are stronger and much better conditioned as a whole.
"Overall the coaching staff was pleased with the energy, unselfish play and teamwork."
WSUCougars.com will have a series of photo galleries from team workouts, leading up to the first day of the official start of the 2009-10 season Oct. 16.
