TROUTDALE, Ore. - Freshman Greta Johnson (Princeton, Idaho) led Washington State's women's cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional Championships at Blue Lake Park in Troutdale, Ore. Saturday.

Johnson finished 29th overall in a time of 18:07 over the 5,000 meter course, less than two minutes off the pace of Stanford's Julia Stamps, who took individual honors in 16:50. All-American Megan Maynard finished 37th overall in 18:14. Ryan Gilmore finished 50th in 18:25.

Stanford captured women's team honors in the 28-team field with 29 total points. WSU finished with 281 team points to finished ahead of Palouse rival Idaho, which finished 11th with 335 points.

The Cougars' were represented in the men's race by four individuals. Jonathan Welsh led WSU in a time of 31:48 over the 10,000 meter course, placing him 32nd. Oscar Franco-Parra's time of 31:55 earned him 37th place.

Oregon's Steve Fein claimed victory in the men's race in a time of 30:30.
