PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State midfielder Nicole Wilcox and defender Shay Hobby were selected as All-West Region picks by website Soccer Buzz Thursday.

"We are very proud of Nicole and Shay for being recognized by Soccer Buzz. Their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence have earned them, as well as all those in our program, well deserved recognition," WSU Head Coach Dan Tobias said. "We are very excited Nicole and Shay will return for what we all believe will be a highly successful 2003 season."

Wilcox was tabbed as a second team pick. The Battle Ground, Wash., native led the Cougars with 24 points, the 10th best total in program history, on eight goals and eight assists. The junior helped WSU reach the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

Hobby earned third team honors after helping the Cougars throw up seven shutouts on the season. A native of Danville, Calif., Hobby and the WSU defense allowed just 1.06 goals per game, the fourth best effort in program history.

Both players return in 2003, along with 19 other letterwinners and nine starters. Washington State compiled an 11-7-2 record overall, including a school record 5 conference victories in 2002.
