Final Score: Washington State 86, Southern 47

Washington State Quotes:

WSU head coach Ken Bone
On the slow start
"We anticipated a slow start. We started Brock Motum and Faisal Aden instead of Reggie Moore and DeAngelo Casto tonight. Those five guys haven't played a whole lot as a group. The other five guys are really comfortable with each other and kind of have a feel for each other, so we kind of expected that and as a staff we anticipated that. It was the first home game and all that, sometimes it takes a few minutes to get going."

On the game
"We did some good things tonight. I was really impressed with Klay Thompson. Here's a guy that last December was leading the nation in scoring, or second, and he could have shot a lot more than 10 times tonight. He shoots 10 times, has 15 points, six rebounds, six assists - that's impressive for a guy who's capable of putting up big numbers. That's what we talked about as a team, if we're going to be successful we need to be unselfish and win as a team."

"Marcus Capers going out there getting 15 rebounds, that's good team basketball. Doing the little extra things, not just looking to score."

Junior Guard Klay Thompson
On the game
"I just try to let the game come to me, I think I did a good job of that tonight. I took 10 good shots."

On taking over some of the point guard duties
"It felt really good. I used to play point guard in high school a little bit, so it was fun setting up my teammates and handling the ball that much. I love distributing and setting up my teammates."

On the team effort
"They all stepped up. Just looking at stats, we had a really balanced scoring effort, that's always good. We had four guys in double-figures, that's nice. It takes a lot of weight off my shoulders and it takes a lot of weight off Reggie's shoulders to have more guys who can score and we're a lot more balanced now."

Junior Guard Faisal Aden
On the atmosphere
"It's fun. I came from a junior college, we didn't even have 100 people at our games, so it's pretty fun. I love the whole atmosphere, I love the crowd, you can kind of play off it a little bit. I enjoyed it."

On the team
"We're real tight as a team. This team's fun to play with because we have so many talented guys, it's just fun. It's hard to guard us because we have a lot of guys that can play. It takes the pressure off each individual, you don't go in there like `man I have to score.' We have a lot of guys that can do different things. It's fun playing with this team, I love playing with this team."

On Reggie's absence
"Reggie is a talented kid. With him at the point we are that much better. Without him we just have to fill in and we have guys that can handle the ball, we have guys that can bring up the ball and direct traffic and do the little things."

Junior Guard Marcus Capers
On the versatility of this year's team
"Last year it was pretty much on Klay. This year we have Klay, myself - I feel I can give you more points this year - once Reggie gets healthy, he's going to give you points, Casto had 16 off the bench, Faisal, who's a phenomenal shooter, and Pat also. I feel like any given night we may have a different guy scoring or we might have a different set of five people in double figures. When we get deeper into our schedule, especially in conference play, it's going to be very hard to guard. So I'm expecting more wins and more excitement."
