Final Stats

HONOLULU - The Washington State women's basketball team closed out its two-game road trip to the Aloha State, falling 65-59 to Hawaii Monday at Stan Sheriff Center. The Cougars fell to 7-3 on the season, while the Rainbow Wahine improved to 3-8.

WSU found itself down by as many as 17 in the first half, and trailed by 15 at the break (31-16). After playing from behind the entire game, WSU clawed back, tying the score at 51 on a Katie Appleton 3-pointer with 3-minutes, 20-seconds remaining. Hawaii built its lead back to four (55-51) however, and the Cougars were only able to get back to within one from that point on.

"It's definitely a puzzle right now for us, trying to figure out why we can't get off to a quicker start," WSU Head Coach June Daugherty said. "This time we weren't able to escape. We need to get this figured out before our next game against a very talented Kansas State team."

Freshman guard Jazmine Perkins led the Cougars with 14 points, and recorded seven steals, tying the freshman single-game record set by Jade Hyett against Oral Roberts, Dec. 2, 1995. Perkins had bested her career high with five steals in the first half alone.

Also scoring in double figures were freshmen April Cook (11) and Rosie Tarnowski (10). Tarnowski also led the Cougars with seven rebounds, and posted two blocks, the first of her young career.

The Cougars close out the nonconference portion of their schedule Sunday (Dec. 28) against 22nd-ranked Kansas State. Tip-off against the Wildcats is slated for 1 p.m. at Friel Court.
