WSU Men Win, Women 2nd at Idaho Cross Country Meet

MOSCOW, Idaho. -- Led by the individual wins of junior Oscar Franco-Parra and senior All-American Megan Maynard, the Washington State University men's cross country team placed first and the Cougar women second at the Idaho Invitational Cross Country Meet Friday.

Racing in windy and rainy conditions on the University Golf Course, Maynard's second straight win placed the Cougar women second behind a strong Idaho team.

"Megan was quite dominating," said WSU Coach James Li. "She ran a quick smart race."

The WSU men, who were without Scott Johnson, Jon Welsh, and Ian Johnson for the second week in a row, were led to victory by Franco-Parra.

"Oscar looked very impressive en route to his second straight win" Li said. "This season will hopefully continue to be his breakthrough year. The men's team looked good, but we could be much, much better when Scott, Jon, and Ian are back."

The Cougars race again Saturday, September 16, at the WSU Cross Country Invitational in Pullman on the WSU Golf Course.
