PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University Head Rowing Coach Jane LaRiviere announced the hiring of Michael Stahlman to the position of assistant coach Tuesday. Stahlman, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, comes to the Palouse after working as an intern coach at Princeton University last year. "We are happy that Mike is joining the Cougar family," LaRiviere said. "He rowed for a great program at Wisconsin and has garnered some excellent coaching experience since his graduation from the school. Mike has a teaching background and has a great enthusiasm for rowing. We are lucky to have him." While at Princeton, Stahlman worked with the freshmen programs in the fall and then coached the third varsity lights and heavies in the spring. During this time he also coached for the Carnegie Lakers Rowing Club, an organization that offers rowing opportunities to the Princeton community. A year after graduating from Wisconsin, Stahlman served as a manager for the Badger rowing team. As a student, Stahlman was a member of crews that captured the Ten Eyck Intercollegiate Regatta Association (IRA) National Championship four times (1999-2002) as well as IRA National Championships in 2000 (open four) and 2001 (straight four).
