PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University rowing rising-senior Lisa Roman has been selected to represent Canada at the 2011 World Rowing Under-23 Championships July 20-24 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Rowing Canada Aviron announced.
Roman, a native of Langley, British Columbia, will join fellow NCAA collegiate rowers Christine Roper (Virginia), Lauren Wilkinson (Princeton), Laura Cowal (Michigan State), Susanne Grainger (Virginia) and Ellen Fawcett - coxswain (Louisville) in the women's eight boat at the World Championships.
A two-year member of the Cougar rowing team, Roman has rowed with the varsity eight crew in both seasons, leading the boat to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2011 and a 14th-place finish in 2010. This season WSU placed 12th as a team at the championships, following a 13th-place finish last season.
In the summer of 2009, Roman captured gold for British Columbia in the Canada Games, rowing in the women's pairs event.
