PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University women's rowing will team up with the National Association of Letter Carriers as it will collect food for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, Saturday, May 7 at both Wal-Mart and Dissmores IGA stores of Pullman.
The rowers will be collecting food at the two locations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food collected will remain locally at the Pullman Food Bank, a division of Pullman Child Welfare.
The NALC's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will take place nationally Saturday, May 14 for 14 hours. Due to next weekend's Pacific-10 Conference Championships, WSU rowing will do its part for the cause this weekend. All food collected by the Cougars will contribute to the amount gathered by the Pullman letter carriers next weekend.
This is the 11th year the Pullman letter carriers will participate in the drive. Last year more than 6,000 pounds of food were collected, with more than 1,000 pounds coming from the rowing team's collections.
"We would not be as successful without their help," Connie Steiger, coordinator of the Pullman food drive, said.
The No. 14 Cougars take to the water Sunday, May 15 for the Pac-10 Championships at Gold River, Calif. WSU will compete to improve its chances for a bid to the NCAA Championships held May 27-29, also at Gold River.
